Invisible Braces are transparent and removable orthodontic appliances for straightening teeth. The aligners will gradually straighten your teeth until you achieve your desired result at the end of your treatment.
Here are 7 things you must know before starting your Invisible Braces treatment!
1. You must wear your aligners at least 17-22 hours a day, daily.
Invisible Braces treatment is a full-time commitment and requires discipline. In order for the treatment to work, you have to wear your aligners for a minimum of 17 hours a day, every day. You should only take them out to eat, or when you’re brushing or flossing your teeth.
2. It can be hard to talk at first.
You’ll need some time to get used to having the aligners in your mouth, especially the first few weeks of your treatment. You might find yourself doing a lot of lisping and mumbling during the first few weeks of wearing your aligners, but this will get better after wearing the aligners for a longer period of time.
3. Invisible Braces may not be right for you.
Invisible Braces is a great choice for minor or moderate orthodontic problems. For more complex issues, such as a bad over-crowding or underbite situation, metal braces might be a better treatment option for you. It’ll be best to speak to an Orthodontic Specialist about your options.
4. You’ll have to brush after EVERY meal.
Not brushing after eating and then just wearing your aligners back means you’ll be sealing food particles against your teeth under your aligners. It won’t feel or look good, and more importantly, it creates an opportunity for bacteria to breed and it will cause tooth decay and foul breath. To prevent these problems, invest in a travel toothbrush or keep one in your desk at work.
5. They can stain.
Your aligners may become stained by certain drinks such as coffee or coloured soft drinks. In order to avoid that, always remove your aligners before drinking your morning cup of coffee and remember to brush your teeth before wearing your aligners again.
6. Those extra snacks may not be worth it.
You’ll have to be somewhat mindful and strategic about how and when you eat. If you want a snack to combat that afternoon sleepiness, you may not think it’s worth it to take out your aligners, eat, and then also take the extra time to brush and floss after.
7. You save time with your dental visits!
Regular metal or ceramic braces require monthly adjustment appointments which can be very time-consuming. With Invisible Braces, you’ll be able to bring home 2-3 sets of aligners (depending on your treatment plan with your Orthodontic Specialist) and change them every two weeks on your own. This cuts down on your dental visits and you can do other things with this extra time saved!
